{"product_id":"collected-works-of-erasmus-controversies-volume-82","title":"Collected Works of Erasmus : Controversies, Volume 82","description":"Erasmus' humanistic approach to theology and biblical exegesis presented a shocking challenge to the theologians at the University of Paris, which had been dominated by scholastic theology for centuries. He engaged in a decade-long controversy over his theological, exegetical, and ethical positions with the Theological Faculty, and especially with their director, Noel Beda. This volume--which translates this crucial quarrel from Latin for the first time--details the formal, wide-ranging attack on Erasmus' theories printed by the faculty in 1531, along with his two replies. Erasmus published his first rebuttal in the spring of 1532, and that fall issued a second edition with substantial revisions and lengthy additions to his original text. With an extensive introduction and detailed commentary by Clarence H. Miller and James K. Farge, this volume highlights the differences between the humanist and scholastic views of genuine theology more fully and extensively than most of Erasmus' other polemical works.Author: Desiderius Erasmus,author\nContributors: Desiderius Erasmus,author\nBinding: hardcover\nPublication Date: \nRelease Date: \nLanguages: English,Published,English,Original Language,Englis\nPublished\/Release Date: 13 Nov 2012\nFormat: Hardback\nPublisher\/Studio\/Brand: University of Toronto Press\nAuthor\/Director\/Artist: Desiderius Erasmus\nDimension (cm): 229x152x25 mm\nPackage Dimension (cm): 33x251x175 mm\nItem Weight (g): 885\nPackage Weight (g): 953","brand":"University of Toronto Press","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":67573523251497,"sku":"BK1442641150","price":231.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0734\/5868\/0105\/files\/9781442641150.jpg?v=1791270101","url":"https:\/\/www.centloop.com\/en-us\/products\/collected-works-of-erasmus-controversies-volume-82","provider":"Centloop","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
