From 9 to 15 August, a convoy of some fifty ships ran the gauntlet of Axis bombers, submarines, E-boats and minefields. Of the original fourteen merchant vessels, only five reached Malta Grand Harbour. In ‘I Wish I Had Your Wings’, Angus Mansfield relates the experiences of two men involved in Pedestal, Captain David Macfarlane of MV Melbourne Star and his nephew John Mejor, one of the Spitfire pilots who fought to protect the convoy. Told using their log books, letters and papers, and illustrated with images from the family archive, this is the story of one family’s contribution to a relief operation that cost over 400 Allied lives, but has gone down in history as one of the most important British strategic victories of the Second World War.Author: Angus Mansfield,author
Contributors: Angus Mansfield,author
Binding: paperback
Publication Date:
Release Date:
Languages: English,Published,English,Original Language,Englis
Edition: New
Published/Release Date: 26 Jun 2025
Bic Classification: Malta, c 1939 to c 1945 (including WW2), Biography: historical, political & military, Diaries, letters & journals, True war & combat stories, Second World War, Air forces & warfare, War & defence operations, Aviation skills / piloting
bicCode:
Format: Paperback / softback
Publisher/Studio/Brand: The History Press Ltd
Author/Director/Artist: Angus Mansfield
Dimension (cm): 198x129x14 mm
Package Dimension (cm): 15x198x129 mm
Item Weight (g): 192
Package Weight (g): 195
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0734/5868/0105/files/9781803999531_cd0ff3e7-9ce8-43d5-96ea-1b2c8dd9c43f.jpg?v=1793614484
https://www.centloop.com/products/i-wish-i-had-your-wings-a-spitfire-pilot-and-operation-pedestal-malta-1942
